PRECISION BLASTING
Over 5 decades of precision blasting and felling experience

What is Precision Blasting?
Precision Blasting is our passion and specialty, and this particular blasting is where our crews get to merge science and art. Blasting rock near existing utilities, homes, businesses, hospitals, and roads is a science, and Dykon has the expertise to blast through anything without any damage to the area’s surroundings.
Technically, all blasting is precision blasting when done properly. Now, it’s considered a science that must be done safely and effectively. The old methods of homemade explosives are over, and there’s no need to dig holes under tree stumps in order to pour explosives in the hole, blasting over and over until the pieces are fragmented enough to remove. This requires the use of very specific precision blasting techniques.

What is the process of Precision Blasting?
- Drill small holes into the rock in a specific pattern
- Calculate and use only the proper amount of explosive in each of those small holes
- Detonate each hole in a sequence
- Control the firing sequence of each hole in such a way that moves rock towards a hole that has already been fired
Is Precision Blasting safe around heavily populated areas?
Precision Blasting and safety around heavily populated areas
Since precision blasting uses small holes in the rock with small amounts of explosive, blasting small amounts of rock in a sequence never allows more than a fraction of the total available energy to be released at any one time. We use this safe, reliable method to fragment rock in congested residential and commercial areas. Instead of using one large explosive to blast through a large, solid rock, the smaller explosives are less dangerous and cause fewer problems on a job site.

Mechanical Breaking vs. Precision Blasting
Mechanical breakage is more expensive than precision blasting and more time-consuming. Infrastructure development can be difficult, and breaking through large rocks is almost always necessary. Tax payers want the job done correctly, in a timely manner, and at a reasonable cost, and precision blasting is less expensive and takes less time. Blasting is a far cheaper means of rock excavation than ripping and mechanical breaking. With blasting, tax dollars are optimized and can be used for further development of much-needed utility and road construction.
Using a combination of precision-controlled rock blasting techniques, precision drilling, and blast design, Dykon Blasting Corp. is able to offer blasting services in areas of construction where rock is encountered in urban areas or near privately owned businesses or utility service lines.
